Responsibilities and good practices
Before to arrange any trip, it’s important to have everything clearΒ Β πββοΈπ
The three most important things
Your main motivation is to help animals.
Not to demand anything in return from the animal’s owner.
You have read and accepted the document of responsibilities and obligations.
Becoming a transport volunteer has certain responsibilities
- Maintain regular contact with the owner once the agreement has been made.
- Include the animal in your transport booking before the departure date (flight, boat, train).
- On the day of the trip, check the animal in (often, you will have external help).
- Obtaining and being responsible for the animal’s papers during the journey.
- Ensuring the welfare of the animal during the journey. (Usually the animal will go in the hold)
- If you make a stopover, make sure that the animal has been transferred correctly. (Just ask the airline. Better safe than sorry).
- Pick up the animal at the destination and hand it over to the owner or responsible person.
- Hand over the animal’s papers to the owner at the destination.
One of our values is honesty and transparency so, we want you to know and consider everything.
Things to consider
- Being a transport volunteer involves contacting the transport company to include the animal in your booking before the departure of your flight, train or boat.
- Being a transport volunteer involves adding approximately 1 hour extra to the recommended arrival time before departure, as checking in an animal takes extra time.
- Being a transport volunteer includes picking up the animal at the destination, which may involve an extra 30 minutes to 1 hour after your arrival. (Animals are treated as special baggage).
